But It's Who I Am...

"I don't like that I do it, but it's who I am."

When someone tells me this, they might as well have said, "I don't care enough about you to control how I act or speak." They choose the easy way out. It was the path of least resistance. It is easier to do nothing than to do something. Changing the bad habit would require work, and that was something they did not want to do.

I am just as guilty as the next person. I have used this excuse without meaning to, only to catch myself after it happened. It is easier to come up with an excuse about a short coming we have than it is to address the problem in our life. But once you put in the work to fix it, the satisfaction is well worth it.

"I don't like that I do it, but it's who I am."

I don't buy that excuse anymore. Quit giving yourself an easy way out. Unless you hold yourself responsible, your habits will never change.  If you don't like the way you act, change it. Habits can be broken no matter how old you are. If you want to act differently, then make a commitment to do it.

Our life is to short to spend it doing things we don't like. That includes the way we act and habits we repeat.

The easy way out is to procrastinate. Creating a new habit is difficult, but soon it will become, well, a habit. The great thing about a habit is it does not require a conscious thought to happen. Your body will do it automatically.
