The Big Decision
If you knew that within a few hours you would be making a decision that will dictate the next few years of your life, what would you do?
By the end of business today, I will have picked between working for a non-profit organization based in Oklahoma City or an investment bank in Dallas. They each have a lot to offer in different ways, but I still am not sure what choice I will make.
The investment bank would allow me to learn how to put my degrees into practice through financial analysis, while the non-profit would give me the opportunity to travel and impact people through sustainable businesses in the Philippines.
They could not be more different in scope, and I do not know which one would make me happier in the long run. That is why over the last few days, I have called friends and people who I look up to for their advice. With each person, I would summarize both opportunities and try to talk it out with them to see what conclusion I came to. Each person had a slighty different take and offered perspectives that I had not considered up to that point.
It never ceases to amaze me how often you will answer your own question just by being on the phone or in the room with a good listener who knows how to probe with questions as well as sit back and just let me talk when I need to. I have been lucky to have lots of those people in my life.
What are your suggestions? Which choice would you make?
